The 2011 Haymaker of the Year ED Hall, Hall Hay and Equipment, Idalia, Colorado was awarded "NHA HAYMANKER of 2011". Ed is a native of Colorado, second generation farmer, Army Air Cavalry veteran, who returned to the family farm and was responsible for the custom hay baling venture. While custom baling over 4,000 acres a season of Colorado native grass, Ed built the first generation of the self-propelled three-wide two-tie bale stacker, and built five machines for the custom business, which now employs 15 workers. Looking for labor-saving machines, Ed built self-unloading hay trailers, bale grapples, two large bale stackers and a custom small square baler.

In 1966, Ed and son Tim formed Hall Hay and Equipment Co., in Idalia, Colorado harvesting 1,200 acres of hay each year. To sell to the commercial hay market, Ed and Tim built a complete bale packaging system producing premium sliced hay for the equine trade. The hay processing facility is in a 25,000 sq. ft. building with 60,000 sq ft. under roof for forage warehouse.

Ed and Jan have a son. Tim a member of the NHA Board of Directors and Two daughters. The children baled hay in summers to earn money for college in the off-season and all three received their degrees.
